Shamanthakamani Movie Review, Rating 3/5 stars: Engaging thriller with a Weak Story

Shamanthakamani's main strength lies in it's actors who delivered believable performances for an otherwise not-so believable story. As then first half sets up the second half, the second half doesn't live up to the expectations. We give Shamanthakamani rating 2 stars out of 5.

Shamanthakamani Movie Review

Shamanthakamani/Samanthakamani is a story that happens in the span of 1-2 weeks. Sriram Aditya’s previous film mostly happens in a single day and that aspect of the film contributed to it’s success. This film revolves around the robbery of a Rolls Royce worth 5 crore.

Story: Nara Rohit investigates the stolen case of a Rolls Royce worth 5 crore that involves Aadhi, Sundeep Kishan and Rajendra Prasad. Sudheer Babu plays the Millionaire with mother sentiment. Who stole the car? Does Nara Rohit conspire to steal it again? Who’s Shamanthakamani? All the suspense form the rest of the plot.

Shamanthakamani Review: The film opens with a breaking news that a 5 crore worth Rolls Royce has been stolen from Provotel hotel and the investigation is handled to Nara Rohit. Up until then to interval, so much time is wasted to setup the suspense that didn’t pay off in the second half.

The characterisations of the main characters were incomplete and the story itself didn’t take it seriously. A few laughs were there throughout the film with Rajendra Prasad who is also a suspect. At the end of the film, everyone conspires to get their hands on the Rolls Royce. The last twist of the film reveals the main robber of Rolls Royce and it was not good enough to surprise the audience as many can see it coming from far.

The performances of all the characters felt real as the actors portrayed them very well. Performances from Nara Rohit and Sundeep Kishan are very good when compared to others. Sudheer Babu as the rich millionaire is convincing enough. Rajendra Prasad provides few comic dialogues. The music and BGM by Mani Sharma is entertaining with peppy beats and flows with the mood of the film. The good thing about the film is that it has no songs except one ‘Padha Padha’.

After all the setup that was done, the twist that was delivered was not good enough but is entertaining to watch all talented actors working together. The film also stars female leads that were not important to the story once the second half begins. The investigation parts are a bit funny and a bit repetitive. The screenplay is weak because it is told linearly and this takes out the suspense of any film. With a plot line as thin as it’s twist, Shamanthakamani falls flat.

Shamanthakamani Rating – 2/5

Verdict: On the whole, Shamanthakamani is a self obsessed film that neither cares about it’s characters nor about it’s story but only exists to deliver the climax twist. The whole movie is a not-so entertaining setup only to see a twist in the climax. The only problem was, once the twist was delivered we didn’t want to watch or think about the whole movie once again.

Watch it with your friends for the weekend for a few laughs and a good twist at the end. Compared with other Telugu releases this weekend, Shamanthakamani scores on top as the best film because it’s definitely better than PATEL S.I.R.
