Holi 2017 pooja timings: Holika Dahan is a cultural and religious festival celebrated by Hindus. Holika Dahan is also called as Holika Deepak or Chhoti Holi. Holika Dahan is celebrated the night before Holi Festival. Not only in India but Holika Dahan is celebrated in Nepal also. On this day people Collect wood and they burn a pyre for Holika Dahan. In this post, we have given the Reason behind why we celebrate Holika Dahan.
History of Holika Dahan:
There was a Demon King named King Hiranyakashipu and his sister was Holika. King Hiranyakashipu had a son named Prahlada. Prahlada was a great follower of Lord Vishnu. This is the one thing which Holika and King Hiranyakashipu didn’t like in Prahlada. Both Holika and King Hiranyakashipu got angry and after observing for some days, one fine day Holika and King Hiranyakashipu planned to kill Prahlada. So Holika trapped Prahlada and took Prahlada into a fire. Both Holika and Prahlada went into fire. Holika has one cloak that prevents her burning from fire. So, they both went into the fire and in that fire, Holika dies and Prahlada lives. King Hiranyakashipu thought Prahlada has done something to his sister but actually, Lord Vishnu saved Prahlada and killed Holika. People also thought that Lord Vishu killed Holika in that fire. So people rub the ash of Holika on their foreheads. King Hiranyakashipu got angry and arrived near Prahlada to kill him while he was praying to Lord Vishnu. From one pillar Lord Vishnu came in a new avatar that is Narasimha Avatar and killed King Hiranyakashipu thus saving Prahlada for following him and being a devotee. As Good triumphed over evil, we celebrate Holi as a celebration of this event.

But for Holika Dahan, we have to Follow time because if we celebrate in wrong time it’s not in alignment with the time of deity and stars in the sky that are called ‘Nakshtras’ which form an important part in designing the Hindu Calendar every year.
