Review
Overall, Bodies, Bodies, Bodies is a solid horror movie. The tension is palpable, and the scares are effective. The cast all give strong performances, with Pete Davidson proving he has range beyond comedy. The cinematography is also noteworthy, making the forest feel both beautiful and foreboding.
That said, the movie does suffer from some horror movie cliches. The group of friends make some questionable decisions that seem designed to move the plot along rather than make sense. Additionally, some of the twists and turns in the plot can feel a bit predictable.
Still, if you are a fan of horror movies, Bodies, Bodies, Bodies is worth a watch. Its strong cast and suspenseful plot make for an entertaining evening.
Characters & Performance
The cast of Bodies, Bodies, Bodies all do a great job bringing their characters to life. Pete Davidson stands out in particular, showing a more serious side than we typically see from him. Amandla Stenberg also does a great job as Jess, who is initially dismissive of the danger but becomes one of the most resourceful members of the group.
Effects
The effects in Bodies, Bodies, Bodies are well-done. The kills are suitably gruesome, but not so over-the-top that they become cartoonish. The forest itself is also utilized well, with long shots showing just how isolated the group is.
Soundtrack
The soundtrack in Bodies, Bodies, Bodies is minimal but effective. The silence is often used to great effect, heightening the tension in key moments. When music is used, it is suitably creepy, adding to the ominous atmosphere.
Cinematography
The cinematography in Bodies, Bodies, Bodies is excellent. The forest is shot in a way that makes it feel like its own character, with long, slow pans of the trees that feel almost hypnotic. The lighting is also well-done, with shadows used to great effect.
Directing
The director of Bodies, Bodies, Bodies, Charlotte Mitchell, does a great job building tension throughout the movie. The pacing is deliberate, but never slow, and she gives each member of the cast time to shine.
